It is supposed to have happened from when he was beaten by some NYC cops during an arrest, they choked him, I think the story goes, and after that his voice was like that.

Miles is the gravelly voiced king. How do I learn to talk like that? Presumably drugs and cigerettes, about 10,000 hours worth!
