She Should Have Gone

From a show Ms. Winehouse was scheduled to play at but cancelled due to "exhaustion" at the last minute.

Her band was already there, so Marcus and his band, Candy Dulfer, and Roy Hargrove stepped in to play on "Rehab".

R.I.P.

Bass Link-O-Fest

Here are a bunch of links to things regarding the playing of the electric bass guitar.
  1. http://www.jazzcapacitor.com/ - New site that collects a bunch of great jazz transcriptions, a few that have been linked to from here previously. Lots of good stuff, Ron Carter, Scott La Faro and others. All in PDF and free as in beer.

  2. The Bee-Gee's Bass Player - You are going to be famous. I know. A rock star. I know. And make your living playing forever. I know. But, you should read this. This guy played some pretty big gigs and now he teaches at a community college in Florida. So maybe learning the names of those scales isn't such a bad idea after all.

  3. http://deftdigits.com - A new player in town has started a web site with a bunch of musical knowledge, not unlike this humble tome. Check out Joe from From the Woodshed new site for lessons.

  4. A Japanese bass player I haven't heard of freaked out on a plane and then killed himself in jail.

On that cheery note, enjoy your Tuesday.

Janek Gwizdala Live Stream Today

Over on Ustream, Janek is going to do another one of his very excellent live streams today at 8pm CST in the US. That makes it 9pm for those of you on the east coast, and 6pm for the west coast. For people in Europia or other places...well, how the heck do I know? Its later. Or earlier. Or even tomorrow.

The point is, if this one is like his previous live streams there will be molto bueno bass information to be had.

Here is the link -

and the super-secret magic password is "radioshow". But you didn't hear that from me.

You do need a Ustream account, but it only takes 10 seconds to make one.

In case you were wondering why it is good to play bass....

Meet Eliane Elias, Bassist Marc Johnson's wife.

And here is Mr. Johnson with Bill Evans playing a solo on "Nardis".

I am going to go practice now until my fingers fall off.
