All 24 Examples from Book Of Chord Tones for C Major 7 Uploaded

So, all 24 examples from "The Book of Chord Tones" for major chords are now up on Soundcloud.

These sound files play each of the 24 ways the notes of a major 7 chord can be arranged. The book contains these exercises (in notation and tablature) for each pattern in all 12 keys, but these sound samples are just for C Major so you can get an idea of what the exercises sound like.

Each book has a total of 288 exercises (24 x 12 keys). Other volumes do the same patterns for all keys, but use the notes for dominant and minor 7 chords. Take a listen and git yer arpeggios on!
  • Exercises 1 - 6 start on the Root ( C )
  • Exercises 7 - 12 start on the 3rd ( E )
  • Exercises 12 - 18 start on the 5th ( G )
  • Exercises 19 - 24 start on the 7th ( B )

Speaking Of Play-Along Tracks...

Well, TrueFire, the online music instruction site, has about 200 different blues play-alongs for ya.

These range in tempo from 60 to 200 bpm and are in a variety of styles (chicago, texas, etc). Each one has an mp3 and a chart.

They have bass parts, but you can still solo over them.

Some are, eh, corny, but there are some decent ones up there for sure. If you are looking for some more free play-alongs there ya go.

Daily Licking 039: Minor Blues in C

Well, you greedy bastards sure like free stuff.

The ii-v play along has been surprisingly popular, so here is another very simple play-along track for you to pilfer.

This time it is a minor blues in C, with a couple of altered chords thrown in.

Follow the same drill as before, download the file and the chart, put the audio into a player that can do seamless looping (like Quicktime Player) and repeat ad infinitum and commence to shredding. There is no bass on this so you can solo or play a bass line along with the chords. Knock yourself out.

Enjoy.

Brian Beller On Bass

Mr. Beller has released a new live record and also recently posted his entire catalog up on Bandcamp.

Beller has played with some scary, scary, people in the past - Dwezil Zappa, Steve Vai, Mike Keneally (also on his new album) and probably a bunch of others who are equally terrifying.

If you like rock-y, (but not dumb) fusion-y, (yet not wanky at all) grooves that have gritty yet sophisticated bass playing, go check out his new album "Wednesday Night Live". It covers a lot of ground, has a high ridiculoso content and will keep you listening for a while.

Basso Approved!

Jamerson and Marvin Gaye isolated tracks from Heard It Through The Grapevine

Here is a mix of just the vocals and the bass from "Heard It Through The Grapevine". There are a lot of these individual tracks floating around the internet these days. I combined just the vox and bass from a set of the 8 different I grabbed off the net that also included the drums, organ, and strings.

When you hear just the bass and the vocals together it is 4 minutes of solo ridiculoso of the highest order. That's some feel right there.
